After a mass shooting targeted members of the LGBTQ community at a nightclub in Colorado Springs, media organizations were left scrambling to cover the full scope of the event — the tragedy of five deaths and 25 injuries and the nuance behind reporting a hate crime involving a traditionally misrepresented community. The E.W. Scripps Company is an industry leader in audience research and training for its journalists in reporting on underserved communities. In this session, Scripps employees will discuss how that training helped drive the coverage of this horrific event.
