Newsrooms enjoy covering diverse communities when it's a parade or celebratory month -- these are the "easy" topics that we can all appreciate. But when tragedy and crisis strikes, such coverage impacting BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities are often inaccurate, lackluster, or harmful. This panel discussion will explore common mistakes made in newsrooms when covering the tough issues impacting these communities (from crime reporting, health coverage, and/or political reporting). Panelists will equip attendees with ways to navigate potential problems and language to use to push management into a more inclusive direction.
