The politicization of health care that erupted during the pandemic has accelerated post-COVID with brazen attempts across many states to interfere with patient and physician autonomy over reproductive health and gender-affirming care. Fueled by medical disinformation, stigma and anti-science rhetoric, these restrictive new laws in nearly two dozen states complicate delivery of care to vulnerable patient populations already at elevated risk for physical and mental health challenges. Where is this all going? And how do we push back on these efforts to ensure patients and their physicians can make decisions about improving health?
