Journalists often choose to run toward an emergency because we know we have a job to do—providing essential, trusted information to the communities we serve. It may come as no surprise then that according to the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, between 80 to 100% of journalists have been exposed to a traumatic event. At the same time, mental health continues to be a topic that can bring up feelings of shame and stigma. How can newsrooms better support journalists’ mental health? What tools can journalists use to navigate reporting on traumatic events, mental health issues, and more on the job? How can we more accurately and effectively report on mental health in a way that reflects and empowers our audience? Join us for a conversation with Spectrum News journalists to reflect on mental health and our profession.
