Joseph Darius Jaafari is the founder and editor in chief of LOOKOUT Phx, a nonprofit investigative queer news outlet based out of Phoenix, Arizona. Jaafari is a volunteer editor and mentor with the Prison Journalism Project, and comes from a decade-long background in reporting on America’s carceral system. Jaafari’s work has been used as evidence by government leaders to investigate state police and treatment of people in county jails. He is a Silver Gavel and ONA finalist for his series exposing secret prison labor in Arizona, and he’s won multiple honorable mentions for his various features on the policing of queer communities in Rolling Stone Magazine. He is a CUNY alum.
