José María Herrera Tamayo is a multimedia journalist and editor with a passion for audience engagement. They are currently Report for America's training coordinator, responsible for training logistics as well as managing the online community of corps members. José has worked in a range of storytelling roles, including Census Information Officer for the State of Minnesota, audience engagement producer at Public Radio International/PRX and the digital editor for eight local newspapers in the Twin Cities metro. They are an alum of the 2017 Poynter-NABJ Leadership Academy for Diversity in Digital Media and of the Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority. José graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in convergence journalism and certificates in multicultural studies and women's and gender studies. They are currently based in Minneapolis where live with two cats, a dog and rabbit.
