Tom Hanson is an anchor and correspondent for the CBS News Innovation Lab based in Dallas. He began his career with CBS News in New York in 2018 as a correspondent reporting across all CBS News platforms.
During his time at the network, Hanson has covered a wide variety of stories, including a rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes; the gruesome Hanukkah stabbing in Monsey, New York; a deadly South Dakota plane crash; an Ohio manhunt for four escaped prison inmates; the nation’s opioid epidemic; scientific endeavors to document ocean health; and the El Chapo, Epstein, and Weinstein Trials.
Prior to CBS, Hanson worked at Channel One News – the American Youth Media Organization reaching 6 million students across the United States. Hanson has worked in more than 20 countries across five continents, and has covered news events around the world, often reporting from the scene.
Tom was on the ground covering military tensions on the Korean Peninsula in 2017,and was in Iran during ground-breaking nuclear deal negotiations. He smuggled himself into Myanmar’s internment camps to document genocide, embedded with independent rebel militias in the lawless regions of Mexico, and tracked down elephant poachers in the Sub-Saharan wilderness. Hanson also got a rare opportunity to interview the Dalai Lama at his compound in Northern India. Closer to home, he covered America’s Opioid Epidemic, the 2016 election, and the record-breaking hurricanes that battered the Gulf Coast in 2017.
